Board of Directors

Benjamin Stone is founder of the Stone Medical Corporation and inventor of Clean Collect, the Phleb Pak, and technologies in other fields. He has authored several patent applications and successfully prosecuted patents with the United States Patent and Trademark Office. He has experience in grant writing, business planning, production system design, marketing strategy, contract writing, clinical investigation design, product design, public relations, regulatory affairs, fund raising, and business management. Prior to founding SMC, he was engaged in cancer research at the University of Iowa and had successfully marketed a variety of products and services. Mr. Stone's Bachelor of Science Degree is from the University of Iowa.

Dr. Sarah England is a tenured professor and prominent researcher at the Department of Biophysics and Physiology at the University of Iowa College of Medicine. Dr. England's research has been published in the Journal of Physiology, Journal of Biological Chemistry, Science, and the American Journal of Physiology. Dr. England was named to the prestigious Robert Wood Johnson Health Policy Congressional Fellowship and served in the office of then U.S. Senator Hillary Clinton. She has been appointed as special assistant to the Vice President of Medical Affairs at the University of Iowa. Dr. England received a PhD from the Medical College of Wisconsin.

Mr. David Kemper has nearly 20 years' sales, marketing, and management experience in both international and domestic markets, and businesses ranging from startups to $200 million in revenue. Mr. Kemper has an MBA from Western Carolina University and a BS in Industrial Engineering from NC State University. He currently serves on the Board of Advisors of the WCU College of Business and the Board of Advisors of the Blue Ridge Entrepreneurial Council. He has served as a director of several organizations including MENG (Marketing Executives Networking Group), Glen Raven Mexicana, Chemtronix, and Wellco Enterprises.

Dr. Jon Lawrie has been a founder, president, CEO, or director at many successful companies including: Codon, Inc., Amoco Corp., Cardiovascular Diagnostics, Inc., Aldagen, Abrovax, Inc., BD Technologies, and Roche Diagnostic Systems. He has raised funding for startups totaling over $50 million in angel and VC capital. He has led many startups to exit by acquisition, licensing, and IPO.  Dr. Lawrie has also been a board member at the Blue Ridge Entrepreneurial Council, NC Biotechnology Center, NC BIO Research Triangle Park, and NC Biotechnology Roundtable. His PhD in Microbiology and Immunology is from the University of Washington.

During a 25-year career at Deere & Co., Jim managed operations of John Deere Healthcare, Deere's managed care subsidiary. One of the original developers who designed an eight-state, multi-delivery system organization starting with $3.5 million in capital, he has extensive experience with underwriting, contracting, and physician relations issues. He has played an active role in the national industry organizations, and, during his leadership at John Deere Healthcare, Consumer Reports Magazine named that organization the leading HMO nationwide in customer satisfaction. Jim Thomson is a graduate of Harvard University.

Andy Shrago is currently a co-manager with Wisconsin Investment Partners. Prior to that, he was Senior Vice President of Sales and Marketing for Prodesse, a start-up biotech company focused on molecular diagnostics for infectious disease. The company was sold to Gen-Probe (San Diego, CA) in October 2009 for $72 million (including realized milestones), and Andy stayed through March 2010 to complete the sales and marketing integration. Prior to Gen-Probe, he ran his own consulting business from 2000-2002, Woodmont Associates, and worked for Datex-Ohmeda (now a GE company 1984-1999) in a variety of positions - financial, marketing and general management. He has an MBA from the University of Chicago and a BA from Cornell University.
